Before and After

This 1845 Greek Revival cottage in Lexington, Massachusetts, was rundown, inefficient and, destined for demolition and landfill disposal in 2018. Yet, rich in character, nearly two centuries old, and constructed from solid old-growth timber, it embodied a level of character and craftsmanship rarely found today. However, as is often the case with old buildings, the prevailing assumption was that replacing it would be easier than preserving it.

We saw a different opportunity. Renovating and adapting older structures requires creativity, problem-solving, and thoughtful project management. When done well, however, the result is something truly special: a home that offers all the comforts and conveniences of modern living while retaining the timeless character, craftsmanship, and patina that only age can provide.
